St George's Day Party and Club Awards - 19th April 2008

A good time was had by all who attended. The night kicked off with a Raffle and Club Awards. Awards going to:

Clubman of the Year: Alex Airey

Players Player: Scott Robinson

1st Team Most Improved Player: Nathan Atkins

Try Scorer: Lee Johnson

2nd Team Player of the Season: Matt Thomas

2nd Team Most Improved Player: Chris Stack

Thanks also went to Martyn Lewis, Mill's Club Captain who is stepping down this season after a number of years of hard work, Mike Reed club player/coach turning out week in and week out, and Wayne and Rebecca Wishart for all their hard work in the kitchen making the most delicious food. All received a well earned bottle of champagne.

The night then continued with good music from our resident DJ Dan French, and what proved to be a controversial Boat Race between the 1st and 2nd Team. Then came the dancing... From the amazingly drunk Pottsy (just a tip Pottsy, never win a bottle of Sambuca in a raffle and continue to spend the night polishing it off), all the way to the seemingly professional moves of the likes of Rich Buss and Carol Stack.

Good Friday Football v Village

Since 2002 we've held this fixture successfully as a good get together day for dogs, kids, wives, husbands, friends , relatives and so on as there's nothing else to do except drive up the share price at Cadburys. This year is no different.

For those that have not been a part of the day/match before, its pretty simple, the rugby club plays the village cricketers and footballers at football. Everybody comes up has a good chin wag and a fair few beers to celebrate the bank holiday. This year Fabio " Legs " Crappello has been handed the baton as footballer in chief as I may well be in the frozen north scouting for talent.

Luckily at the rugby club we seem to have some new footballers on hand to help spank the village, overton, skippy, robinson, brady, potts to name a few.

Anyway let legs know yer coming, mill hill kit in hand and he'll take it from there.

Will "pat the cat smythy" make his seasonal reappearance or will the big Scottish keeper play thus dooming us to glorious defeat, or possible calamity cooper make their debuts in goal? And that’s before e use out semi pro "skippy the pouch" Webster. So Dave that’s a good choice to start with. Will Martyn Davies educated two left feet twinkle in midfield, will Scott Robinson show us how good he is, will Dave Overton pass it? Will shag play the central roving midfield destroyer,. And of curse the crowds darling Missit Mellish will be on hand to notch? Will pottsy turn out to be a better playmaker than he is trader? Will Matt "bremner" Thomas turn up in the hope that we wear stripes rather than hoops. Will Eusibio Maison finally make a cameo appearance, will Colin Hutton be allowed to drop the pinny and come and remind us all how good he is. Will Mct get flown in from wild east Essex to be Legs lieutenant - wall Tim green play his own roll on roll off way, will Bari Coltrini (sounds like an italian libero) turn up and clean a few out? Can Gilo Taylor play without his scrum cap? Oh it goes on and on. Will Big Al friend of Man Citys Big Mal - come with his fur lined booties. That’s enough you get the idea….

So 11:30 ko…players be there for 11:10 let legs know for definite your looking to play and he'll arrange from there.

For those that don’t know the village is at Burtonhole lane nw7. Go to the Adam and eve on the Ridgeway opposite is burtonhole lane (or certain hole as fannon used to call it) drive down bear left at the junction drive past Finchley nurseries, after 100 yards you are then at the field of dreams aka the "chop".

MHRFC Poker Night - Texas Hold 'Em! - 11th January 2008

Just a little thank you to all those who attended the Poker night on Friday. There were 23 players, 7 of which were on the novice (tight wads) table. Due to only having 16 players on the main tables we had re-buys for the first hour. This pushed the prize pool up £560.
A great night was had by all, even Reno Sava who gave me all his chips a couple of times. If you have not been to one of these nights ask someone who has if they had a good time, most will say yes even if they lost.

I had decided to post the result prior to the tournament, its not that I am gloating or anything.

1st Mark Vardy £224.00
2nd Steve Calagari £134.40
3rd Piers Jenkins £ 67.20
4th Tim Green £56.00
5th Mark Leckie £ 44.80
6th Joe Sheridan £33.60
7th Dennis Sheridan £0 (the worst place to finish)

Christmas Party & Lee's 30th - Fancy Dress - 15th December 2007

This years Xmas party at Mill Hill, was also a celebration of Lee Johnson's 30th Birthday. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and it would appear that copious amounts of alcohol were drunk! Everyone danced and sung the night away... And it being Lee's special celebration, he even made a special effort by wearing his Birthday Suit during part of the evening.

Everyone made a fantastic effort with dressing up - there were Super Heroes aplenty, with many other attendees, from Princess Leia, to Minnie Mouse to Edward Scissorhands... Even Amy Winehouse made an appearance!

Thanks to Lee and Julie, and to everyone who made such a fantastic effort, to make it yet another wonderful night at Mill Hill.

Movember... Skippy's Charity Drive - Updated 21/11/07

Clean Shaven Skippy - before Movember

Hi All,

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'll be growin a Mo (slang for Moustache). That's right I'm bringing the Mo back to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity because I'm passionate about men's health and the fight against prostate cancer. Why...

  1. Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosed in men in the U.K. with at least one man dying every hour from the disease.
  2. Every year about 35,000 men in the U.K. are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 10,000 men die from the disease.
  3. One man in 11 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime in the U.K.

To sponsor my Mo (moustache) and fight against prostate cancer please go to http://www.movember.com/uk/donate, enter my registration number which is 161755 and your credit card details. Or you can sponsor me by cheque made payable to "The Prostate Cancer Charity" clearly marking the donation as being for my Registration Number: 161755. Please mail cheques to: The Prostate Cancer Charity, ATT: Movember, First Floor, Cambridge House, 100 Cambridge Grove, Hammersmith, London W6 0LE. Otherwise catch me at the Rugby Club or leave your donation behind the bar.

Mid-Movember... Skippy joins the Village People
All donations are made directly to The Prostate Cancer Charity which will use the money to fund high quality research into the causes, treatment and impact of prostate cancer and to provide support and information to men and their families.

Movember culminates at the end of the month at the Gala Partés. These glamorous and groomed events will see Tom Selleck and Borat look-a-likes battle it out for their chance to take home the prestigious Man of Movember title. If you would like to be part of this great night you'll need to purchase a Gala Parté ticket.

Thanks for your support

Michael (Skippy) Webster

3rd November 2007 - Hallowe'en and Fireworks Night

Mill Hill Rugby Club hosted a very scary, very fun...

Fun was had by everyone who attended. With apple bobbing, slime dipping and many scary costumes... The kids enjoyed every bit of the Hallowe'en party, organised by Julie Johnson, Viv Davies, Sarah Savva, Nicky Johnson et al.

The firework display organised by Gillie and friends was truly awesome and could easily be compared to professional displays.

A big thank you to all involved and to everyone who contributed fireworks.

6th October 2007 - MHRFC's Annual Conkertition

Not only did Saturday 6th October see Mill Hill's 1st team defeat of Old Tottonians, England's defeat over Australia and France's defeat over the All Blacks, in the Rugby World Cup... It (probably more importantly) saw Charlotte Overton's defeat over every other Conkertition entrant, in Mill Hill Rugby Club's Annual Conkertition.

Charlotte battled her way through 7 rounds of conkers to win the coveted title (oh, and £50), despite much effort by Gillie to win, who went out at every round, bought into every following round, and still managed to not make it to the final! Poor Gillie, first spoof then the Conkertition... Will his gambling luck ever turn?!

Thanks to Lee Johnson for collecting the conkers, and to Julie and Leanne Johnson for organising it and keeping us all under control (kind of).

Winner!

22nd September 2007 - Mill Hill Rugby Club is 70!

So Saturday 22nd September saw the rugby club's 70th birthday bash... And what a great night it was! As I (Eloïse) have a rather limited memory of the night (copious amounts of alcohol and hideously high heels are not a good combo, let me tell you!), Charlotte Overton has helped me with the write up... Ok as I have virtually NO memory of the night, Charlotte actually wrote most of it!!

Firstly, thanks to Julie Johnson and her team of helpers (Amanda Leckie, Viv Davies, et al) for organising a wonderful evening. The club looked lovely, and was totally transformed. The night was a great success for the club, and everyone had a wonderful time!

I'm sure everyone will agree it was a fantastic night enjoyed by all. Made extra special by the many people who attended... It was great to see some of the old faces, boogying on down with some of the newer ones! Everyone made a great effort, in what turned out to be a sea of old gold and chocolate.

Thanks also to Ray Burnett and Mark Vardy who could clearly give Tom Cruise a run for his money as cocktail extroadinaires, and to Tim 'Gordon Ramsey' Hurst for his sumptuous feast! Although I think you could have just given JC the block of cheese as he seemed to make a fair bit of headway through that for you!

And of course thanks goes to Mick and Adam and their band for the diddly diddlying which everyone seemed to enjoy, and also to the disco man James. The highlight of the night just had to be Reno's dance off... which appeared to be against himself!! (Or was it just because no-one could touch him?!)

With some fantastic prizes won in the raffle, thanks to Julie (prize winners will be identified as soon as we know who they are!), although my sister did win first prize... and yes, she really is my sister! I think we can safely say that all in all this will be a night not to be forgotten too soon! (Unless your name is Eloise, and you can't remember it in the first place!).

Highlights of the evening: It has to be Reno's dance off and of course a special mention for the ladies toilets looking great and smelling fresh! Thanks to www.odourbuster.com and www.airaway.biz

Thanks to everyone who helped make this such a wonderful night.
